Our recently upgraded production facility in Iceland carries out the purification of enzymes extracted from cod caught off the North Atlantic coast. This is the initial step in our Penzyme® barrier technology process, which is at the heart of our consumer products.
Iceland is also the location of much of our research into understanding and developing the technology required to inhibit the activity of cod trypsin in a product stored at room temperature and subsequently initiating that activity when the product is used in human beings. Penzyme® barrier technology has been specifically developed to stabilise and harness the activity of the trypsin so it can be activated when required.
Enzymatica has a comprehensive patent on the use of cod enzymes within Europe valid until 2035, with notice being given by patent authorities in both China and the USA that Enzymatica will be granted patents that will be valid in each country until 2036.
